Ditches provide a year-round habitat for wildlife
While the farm has no hedges and only three trees, it has12.5miles (20km) of ditches. The land was drained about 200 years and lies between two and eight meters below sea level.
High clay content soil
The farm’s soil has such a high clay content, that it was once used to make bricks that were transported along the drains to whereever need.
Wildlife on the farm
Barn owls, little owls, buzzards, red kites, kestrels, deer, hares are some of the larger animals found sharing the farm with us. Surveys have also found 5 species of bee and 16 butterfly species.
