Managing the OSR canopy for yield – growth animation

Now that cabbage stem flea beetle has become an almost nationwide problem, many growers have adjusted their OSR agronomic practices in order to keep the crop in the rotation. Early drilling and higher seed rates may help autumn establishment success but it’s important not to abandon our agronomy ‘know-how’ as to how yield is made. If these crops grow away from larval damage in the spring, they risk being too big at flowering to set a high number of seeds/m2. Larval damage to the main stem may also increase lodging risk.

This short video shows an animation of how yield is formed in OSR and why canopy management in the spring remains important.
