BASF to share oilseed rape establishment risk this autumn
27 Mar 2020
BASF will, once again, share the risk of growing winter oilseed rape (WOSR) with farmers following the successful uptake last autumn. The InVigor Establishment Risk Share Programme will cover all InVigor winter oilseed rape hybrid varieties in the event of autumn establishment failure.
Sarah Middleton, BASF’s Seed Market Manager describes the commitment to support farmers as focused on the sentiment amongst them that growing the crop is becoming increasingly challenging.
“We know that winter oilseed rape has become the ‘problem child’ following the loss of neonicotinoids, which puts pressure on the growing crop all the way through from establishment to harvest, but we’re also fully aware of the importance of WOSR as a break crop on many, many farms,” she says.
She adds that BASF’s confidence in the InVigor range to give a strong start to the crop is based on both the vigour of the portfolio and the boost to early root and shoot growth given by the seed treatment, Integral Pro, which is applied as standard across the range. We hope this will encourage farmers to plant InVigor knowing that they have chosen varieties with vigorous early season growth, as well as providing a financial safety net to fall back on.
Irrespective of whether they are drilled early or late, or in good or sub-optimal growing conditions, the early vigour associated with InVigor varieties gives plants the best chance to grow away from adult CSFB attack and produces stronger plants to help withstand and grow away from larval infestations. As well as vigour, the InVigor portfolio includes hybrids with a range of desirable agronomic traits such as tolerance to pod shatter, verticillium wilt and TuYV.
The InVigor Establishment Risk Share Programme is open to any farm that drills InVigor seed before 22 September 2020. Any crop that fails to establish by 31 October 2020 will be eligible to claim £30/ha. Growers who buy InVigor seed will automatically be registered onto the programme with their purchase.
