Herbicide Strategies

Growers are planning herbicide strategies for Autumn crops, Angus has taken some calls from growers wanting to use Crystal.

To use Crystal for weed control in my winter wheat, my main issue is black-grass but I have some broadleaved weeds too. When is the best timing?

For black-grass, the best control will be achieved when Crystal is used at pre em, ideally within 48 hours of drilling. The pendimethain within Crystal will stay within the soil profile and will provide residual activity for later germinating weeds, which will include broadleaved and later germinating black-grass.

I’d like to use Crystal for weed control on a block of winter wheat but it’s very poor ground and previous crops have sometimes failed. What are the following crop restrictions if Crystal is used at full rate pre-emergence?

There are no restrictions on crops following a normal harvest if Crystal is used alone, but in the event of a crop failure wheat and barley can be drilled that autumn after ploughing to at least 15cm; potatoes and peas are additional spring crop options.
