Tractor Cab Pack Ups

Harvest is rapidly racing into view, and with it long days (and nights) in the field. In our household, what makes an appropriate tractor cab lunch is hotly contested. A yogurt, for instance, is a definite no – how are you supposed to use a spoon whilst charging down one of the roughest fields in the county? So we thought we’d put together a handy list of fail-safe pack up treats, guaranteed not to spill, crumble of melt in your long days in the field.

Why not tag us @BASFCropUK if you make some and tell us what you think?

1. Cornish Pasty

A staple for a working pack up for centuries, the pasty is filling, nutritious and easy to eat on the go. If you’re making them yourselves, don’t be tempted to overfill.

2. Fruit & nut flapjack

So quick to throw together, and lasts really well in a tupperware. Adding some dried fruit and nuts instantly transforms your average flapjack – my favourite is chopped dried apricots and pecans, but cranberries, walnuts and sultanas are all good too.

3. Cheese scones

When sandwiches get too samey, a cheese scone is a great alternative. They can be thrown together in ten minutes and freeze well if you’re batch cooking.

4. Banana bread

One of the most popular lockdown recipes, banana bread is so easy to throw together and, unlike a sandwich cake, transports well and doesn’t fall apart when you’re eating it.

Try it yourself.

5. Jumbo oat cookies

These cookies are the perfect balance, with a crisp bite but chewy middle. They are great with sultanas mixed in, or if you’re after something a bit more fiery add a tsp of ginger into the mix.

Try it yourself.

6. Veggie samosas

A little trickier to make, but these samomsas are a great way to spice up a boring lunch. If you don’t have the time or patience to make them, they’re widely available in most supermarkets.

Try it yourself.

7. Scotch Eggs

A bit of a faff, but definitely worth it to make a 10/10 packed lunch. This recipes adds an extra layer of bacon to make them even more delicious!

8. Mini quiches

Quiche can be a bit a tricky one to eat on the go if the filling isn’t quite set, so these little bite sized ones are a great alternative.
