Clearfield® herbicides – Top Tips

Clearfield® herbicide Cleravo® - provide 3 key benefits to help set the crop up well for the spring and all its challenges, such as csfb larvae:

Here are a few reminders on how to get the best out of the herbicides

How to get the best weed control

1. Timing

  • Broad-leaved weeds: Target 1 - 4TL of actively growing weeds - don’t let them get bigger
    • Crane’s-bill spp: 2 true leaves
    • Runch: 3 true leaves
    • Mayweed spp: 4 true leaves
    • Poppy: 4 true leaves
    . The weeds below can get away quickly, so we recommend a maximum weed size for application:
  • Volunteer Cereals: Target 2-3TL of the cereals (latest is 2 tillers) With high populations of charlock or runch, it is tempting to wait for all to emerge, but it is better to get the majority at the correct growth stage, both in terms of weed control & protecting yield.

2. Application

  • 100 litres are OK. Angled nozzles will help if it’s a thick crop. Increasing volume will not
  • Medium spray is OK, using flat fan or small droplet air induction nozzles. Not coarse
  • Allow a minimum of 2 hours (if applied to a dry leaf) to become rain-fast
  • Always add Dash® HC 1.0l/ha – it improves leaf cover and uptake
