Protect OSR flowering crops

Where crops have made it through to the spring, decent weather in March has helped them compensate and flowering crops will be worth protecting.

Filan® is a cost-effective way of protecting your crop, providing top disease control and physiological yield effects in one product - no compromise required.

Maximizes seed-fill by keeping leaves greener for longerADAS trials show Filan® increases GLAD, with associated yield increase

Why is resistance management of LLS important at flowering?

LLS is polycyclic in the crop and LLS spores are still present in the crop at flowering even where the disease is at low levels.

If LLS is still a worry, Filan® will provide good protectant activity against LLS moving onto the pod canopy. Remember no flowering spray will control LLS already present lower down the canopy as the fungicide won’t reach it, it just helps to protect the pod canopy.

Why is GLAD (Green Leaf Area Duration) important?

Keeping leaves greener for longer maximises seed-fill and % oil which is laid down late in the seed-fill stage. Filan®Verticillium helps counteract factors which can cause premature loss of green leaf such as poor rooting, stem cankers and ®. In ADAS research (4 trials) the increase in GLAD added 0.2t/ha in the absence of disease. The increase in GLAD has also been found with Pictor which is not surprising – both fungicides contain boscalid, which reduces the stress hormone ethylene.

Filan® Recommendation

At early to mid-flower: Apply Filan® 0.3-0.5 kg/haSclerotinia There is no evidence of resistance to SDHI fungicides to in the UK but as precautionary resistance management the label has an advisory statement to tank mix with a second mode of action

Sclerotinia monitoring

Unfortunately, we are unable to produce the BASF-ADAS Sclerotiniao Monitoring Bulletins in 2020. This is due to government guidance on social distancing due to Covid-19 preventing operation of the spore PCR lab testing, which is an integral part of the ADAS advice. Therefore, we are unable to advise on the level of inoculum. But headline guidance is that in flowering crops where night temperatures stay above 7SclerotiniaC, infection can occur if canopies are humid. Remember all fungicides are protectant only, so an early-mid flower spray is advised if these conditions occur.
