The war against CSFB, can Clearfield® help?
The war against csfb involves 3 ‘battles’: reducing the damage from adult feeding, reducing egg lay, and finally improving the resilience of the plant to tolerate the resultant larvae in the spring.
We’ve a fighting chance of winning battles 1 and 3 if we aim for a moderate seed rate, fast and even emergence, and good autumn vigour to establish strong individual plants in the spring.
The Clearfield® system can help with this:
SU residue tolerance
Spring SU use followed by reduced soil disturbance at establishment increases the risk of SU residues affecting emergence and early crop growth. All Clearfield® hybrids are unaffected by this.
Timely weed control
Timely weed removal at 1-4TL aids autumn crop growth. Clearfield® herbicides have the widest weed spectrum of any herbicide, including troublesome brassica weeds. In early drilled crops, weeds such as charlock and chickweed get big quickly and need timely removal. Volunteer rape can also a problem, causing over thick plant populations.

Clearfield® herbicides provide excellent crop safety with a flexible crop timing from cotyledon to 8 true leaves.
Clearfield® also has the potential to be used in some of the tactics under test to reduce adult damage and egg lay such as drilling mixes of Clearfield and conventional seed and also trials with some companion crops.
Note: Clearfield® ONLY herbicides shouldbe used on Clearfield varieties (name has CL suffix).
