Autumn herbicides in OSR – new Smart Tool launched
1 Aug 2019
Polly Lawman, from the Solutions and Services team tells us about a new tool available for this autumn to help with decision-making on herbicide applications.
It’s common sense that when you apply chemistry in the field, you want it to stay there. It means you get the best efficacy and you protect your local water courses. But it’s not always easy to know when to go, and keeping track of date restrictions adds another layer of complication… well not anymore!
BASF has teamed up with Agrimetrics to provide an easy and free to use tool to help you time metazachlor and quinmerac applications this autumn, so that you can have more confidence that your product is staying in the field, where it’s needed.
The wHen2g0 Smart Tool helps to improve timings of metazachlor and quinmerac from a water stewardship perspective. By taking into account soil type, cultivation method, soil moisture, drainage and weather, the tool gives an 8-day forecast using a simple traffic light system to indicate the potential risk to water. Click here to watch the video and learn more about how it works.
What’s more, this tool makes application timings for these key OSR herbicides MORE flexible. When there is evidence that you have checked the wHen2g0 tool (by downloading the report), the application window can be extended into November.
The tool is available here and works on all devices, meaning you can get an up to date forecast wherever you are. There’s no log-in required, so no passwords to remember… and no excuse not to check it!
Paul Goddard, BASF Product Stewardship and Value Chain Manager comments “We have developed this Smart Tool with both water requirements and growers in mind. We are trying to help people do the right thing with regards to stewardship of water, which will in turn help to maintain registration of active ingredients.”
