Biological Slug Killer

Nemaslug® controls all common species of small to medium sized slugs. Start your control early and you will be able to target the young slugs growing under the ground before they do any damage.

Advantages of using Nemaslug® Biological Slug Killer:

  • Microscopic organisms occurring naturally in the soil
  • Nematodes attack slugs by entering natural body openings
  • Reproduces inside the dead pest
  • Safe to crops, users and the environment
  • Nematodes can survive up to 6 weeks in the soil
  • Unlike chemical pellets, nematodes continue to work well during wet weather

Why Nemaslug®?

Nemaslug® is a revolutionary biological control slug control product containing nematodes of the species Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita, microscopic worms that are already present in our soil. This product offers reliable performance and acts in a natural way, so is compatible with organic farming. Therefore, Nemaslug® can be used in organic systems or as part of your IPM programme to reduce residues.

Nemaslug® is a safe and effective way to deal with a slug infestation. Nematodes attack the pest by entering natural body openings, releasing a bacteria which quickly and safely kills it. The nematodes then reproduce inside the dead pest and release a new generation of hungry nematodes, which disperse and search for further prey. Slugs stop feeding and die between 4 to 21 days as nematodes spread throughout their body.

One application of Nemaslug® will provide up to 6 weeks control of all common species of small to medium sized slugs.

Slug damage

Slugs are generally easily spotted, and you will probably be aware of them if you have an infestation.

Slug damage is characterised by irregular holes with smooth edges on leaves and slime trails.

If you have crops like strawberries and tomatoes, slugs will also chew round holes in the fruit as well as the leaves.

How do Nematodes work?

  • Nemaslug® is applied to the soil.
  • After application our specially selected nematodes attack the slugs by entering natural body openings or by penetrating the pest cuticle directly.
  • Once inside, they release bacteria that stops the pest from feeding, quickly killing the pest.
  • They do not stop there. The nematodes reproduce inside the dead pest.
  • They release a new generation of hungry nematodes, which disperse to hunt down further pests.
  • When nematodes can no longer find a host pest, they will die back to their original numbers. The more pests there are, the better nematodes perform.

Slug lifecycle

  • Individual slugs are capable of breeding throughout the year but do so typically in times of favourable conditions, warm and wet weather
  • Adults are hermaphrodites and once mated are capable of laying up to 500 eggs in batches of 20-80. Peak egg laying occurs in Mar/Apr and Sep/Oct.
  • Eggs are laid in unexposed locations to avoid hot and dry environments and take 2 to 3 weeks to mature and hatch
  • The emerging immature stages start feeding on susceptible plant material, taking one to two months to reach sexual maturity
