Brome Control

Sarah Cook gives her advice on how to manage brome populations

Three top tips for managing brome populations

  • Keep spray drift into hedgerows to a minimum to limit the creation of bare patches which brome species can occupy
  • Keep fertiliser from straying into hedgerows to allow non-threatening species to flourish and stop weeds gaining a competitive advantage
  • Consider adding extra field margin strips to act as a buffer between the hedgerow and crop, they will need spraying off or mowing each year so might not be economical in small fields
