Barley

Disease control is one of key basics to get right in barley. It is vital to control disease from early in the season to maintain a disease free crop from tillering onwards. Emphasis must be placed on a programmed approach to barley disease control.

T1 fungicides are essential for primary disease control (Rhynchosporium, Net blotch, Brown Rust and Mildew) and are the foundation to retaining tiller numbers and creating yield. T1 Fungicides need to applied between GS30-31. Do not delay until GS32 or you will compromise disease control which will lead to the loss of important tillers.

Xemium (Fluxapyroxad) + F500 (Pyraclostrobin) (Priaxor/Tevos) is the most effective combination for the control of Rhynchosporium , Net blotch and Brown rust. For specific knowledge on Rhyncho, Net blotch, brown rust please visit the disease pages.

A correctly timed T2 fungicide is central to effective Ramularia control. Managing Ramularia is essential for photosynthesis and maximising grain yield. The key timing for T2 fungicides is GS45.

Revystar XE (Mefentrifluconazole + Xemium) is the best broad spectrum fungicide for T2 timing. It combines, Revysol® with its market leading Ramularia control and the power of Xemium® for Rhynchosporium control and improvement in straw quality.

T2 is all about bringing the crop home from the yield which we have created at T1.

  • In terms of disease, Ramularia now becomes the key focus. In terms of actives, Revysol is the strongest available active for the control of Ramularia. However, we cannot lose sight of the fact that a programmed approach to managing a crop of barley is key to mitigating the threat of Ramularia.

  • Straw quality is also a concern at T2, especially when one considers how suspectable modern-day varieties are on straw brackling.
