Caryx® in WOSR
If an oilseed rape crop exceeded the GAI threshold of 0.8 (approximately 50% ground cover) at the end of February, then it will benefit from Caryx®, applied anytime from start of stem extension through to yellow bud.
Green bud sprays provide more crop shortening whilst yellow bud sprays provide stronger canopy manipulation. Canopy manipulation results in more light penetration to the lower primary branches, encourage secondary branching and thereby increase seeds/sqm for improved yields.
Where cabbage stem flea beetle larvae are causing some concern, then waiting for a yellow bud application may be better. The larvae feed in the main stem and perhaps a branch and can damage the growing point. Caryx® applied at yellow bud will strengthen branch growth and also increase secondary branching which may help the crop compensate.
Caryx® Recommendation:
Light Leaf Spot in the crop?
Light Leaf spot should ideally be controlled prior to stem extension to reduce risk of yield loss but if it is still active in the crop at stem extension, then add tebuconazole 0.5l/ha.
